Hvítserkur-Once the plug of a volcano, over the years the crater surrounding the rock plug gave way to the pounding Atlantic Ocean, leaving only this unusual rock outcropping. The legend goes that Hvítserkur is a petrified troll. The troll lived in Strandir and wanted to tear down the bells at Þingeyrarklaustur convent, but fortunately it got caught by daylight and as we all know, trolls turn into stone by the sun.
Deildartunguhver-Steam from this thermal spring drifts across a grassy meadow. This is Europe's most powerful hot spring and provides boiling water used for central heating in the surrounding towns.
